Calpe is one of the liveliest towns in La Costa Blanca due to the number and variety of fiestas held throughout the year.  The typical fiestas of the province of Alicante are combined with the typical fiestas of the residents of Calpe.

The fiestas in Calpe are a mirror of the multiculturality of the town, where we can enjoy local festivities like the Moors and Christians Fiestas and the Oktoberfest, a fiesta typical of Baviera, Germany.

Calpe’s schedule of fiestas is extensive and spread over the months, although sometimes various fiestas can coincide on the same month.  It is a town with streets inundated with joy and entertainment all year round.

  • The fiestas calendar begins in January with the celebration of the Three Wise Men, staging a cavalcade for children who are left flabbergasted.

  • February in Calpe is carnival month, celebrating the typical local carnival as well as the German one.

  • March is Fallas month and also, on the 19th of March, the fiesta in honour of Saint Joseph is also celebrated in La Plaza de la Constitución, with different activities, such as an offering of flowers, parades, a giant paella and open-air dancing.

  • April is Easter Week and MayLa Cruz de Mayo’ (the Cross of May).

  • June is taken up by the Bonfires of St. John.

  • In July, the ‘Feria de Andalucía’ (the Andalucía Fair) inundates Calpe with light and colour and July also sees the Festivity of ‘La Virgen Carmen’, which is the fiesta that the sailors organise for their patron saint, with an offering of flowers and an emotional homage to all the men who never returned from their sailing trips.

  • In August, Calpe celebrates its fiestas in Honour of Calpe's ‘Virgen de las Nieves’ (Virgin of the Snow).  The events begin on the 14th of August with the ringing of church bells and, as of that moment, ‘Dolçaina i Tabalet’ music, dancing, “mascletaes”(fireworks), firework displays at night, open-air dancing and shows, cavalcade, bulls and young bulls, all invade Calpe, filling its streets with joy and entertainment.

  • In October, Calpe celebrates the Festivity in Honour of the Holy Christ ‘Santísimo Cristo del Sudor’, Calpe’s patron saint since 1682. With these fiestas October also sees the Moors and Christians Fiesta and the 'Oktoberfest’ Beer Festival, due to the large number of German nationals residing in Calpe. The Oktoberfest is held in Calpe since 1982, with the participation of numerous carnival associations from different areas of Germany, and with dancing, fancy dress, traditional German music, food and, needless to say, plenty of beer.Calpe’s extensive calendar of fiestas includes traditional, religious and international fiestas as well as patron saints’ festivities, a different fiesta practically every month of the year.
